Tell Me Again How Unions Aren’t Common Thugs
Posted on November 18, 2009 by Brian
How is this not common thuggery?
In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.
Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city’s largest municipal union.
Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.
“We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails,” Balzano told the council.
Balzano said Saturday he isn’t targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city’s decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said “there’s to be no volunteers.” No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.
“We would hope that the well-intentioned efforts of an Eagle Scout candidate would not be challenged by the union,” said Mayor Ed Pawlowski in an e-mail Friday. “This young man is performing a great service to the community. His efforts should be recognized as such.”
Balzano said Saturday the union is still looking into the matter and might cut the city a break.
“We are probably going to let this one go,” Balzano said.
Oh, isn’t that wonderful? They’ll “probably” let this slide. How nice of them, huh?
Who in the hell do these guys think they are to tell someone they can’t volunteer to clean up a park? Last I checked, WE own those parks, not the unions. The nerve of these guys.
And if that comment about “looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails” isn’t a threat, I’ll eat my hat.

Naming Names

Isn’t it funny that when conservatives dare to take Republicans to task for not being conservative, we get bashed by the left and the media for not being inclusive, how our tent is too small, how intolerant/radical/far right-wing we are, etc., yet a few Democrats vote against the health care fiasco, and the New York Times basically puts out a hit on them and nothing is said.
That’s because, say what you will about conservatives trying to take back the Republican Party, the left has worked hard — VERY hard — for years to make sure the Democrat Party is as far-left as they come. And it’s a given (to them, at least) that if a Democrat votes against something they hold dear, they will work for their defeat.
Remember, a couple of years ago Daily Kos founder (and ultra-liberal) said of the Democrat Party that “we bought it, we own it, it’s ours”, or something along those lines. The thing is, these people mean it when they say it about their party, but when a conservative dares express the same sentiments towards his party, why, we’re racists or whatever.
Just for the record, if this health care crap passes the Senate, Obama will sign it, and we can kiss this 200+ year experiment in freedom goodbye. Fun while it lasted, I suppose…

Liberals: Don’t Rush To Conclusions On Shooter, Unless You Think He Was A Wingnut
Posted on November 6, 2009 by Brian
Talk about hypocrisy. This post blasts certain conservative blogs for “rushing to conclusions” about the recent shooter/shooting at Ft. Hood.
However, just a few posts down their main page, we are treated to this:
Obviously, the fact that more than one shooter — as many, it seems as three — were involved in this clearly indicates a conspiracy, and for this kind of target, it could be ideological.
And, of course, it has the usual category tags, including one that labels it as “right wing violence”. So tell me, Crooks & Liars (a perfect title for a left-wing blog, if you ask me), who is jumping to conclusions here?
When there’s even the slightest possibility that a conservative/right-winger has done something violent, they’ll fall all over themselves to point out the connection and blame conservatives and their ideology for it. And if they can’t find a connection, they’ll just invent one and hope it sticks.
However, if there’s a connection to the left, no matter how solid it may be, they are strangely silent about it or, at the very most, advising people to avoid “rushing to conclusions” (i.e., don’t blame us or our ideology for it). See how that works?
For what it’s worth, I’m sitting here and waiting for the final report to form my opinion on the matter, but from what I’ve seen so far, there is more than a couple of things that point to the left and their ideology, so I can understand their desire to spin this and somehow blame it on the right.

Now You Know Why The Left Always Goes To The Courts
Posted on November 4, 2009 by Brian
The left relies on activist judges to “pass” their agenda on the rest of the country. Why? Because if it were actually up to the people, most of ‘em would vote like this. And the left knows it.
Next step for the left? My prediction, they go to court and try to get it overturned. It’s what they do whenever they lose.

Not Because Of The Stimulus, But In Spite Of It
Posted on October 29, 2009 by Brian
The New York Times has an article up on how the economy has started to expand again:
The nation’s gross domestic product expanded at an annual rate of 3.5 percent in the quarter that ended in September, matching its average growth rate of the last 80 years, according to the Commerce Department. But government programs to encourage consumer spending on things like cars and houses are expiring, and employers remain reluctant to hire more workers, suggesting the recovery may not last, economists say.
“The big-picture perspective is that things have improved,” said Jan Hatzius, chief United States economist at Goldman Sachs. “The question is, how sustainable is this growth going forward?”
For most people, the recovery will not feel real until jobs are more plentiful and the housing market improves. Jobs may still be hard to find well into 2010, economists say. A government report to be released next week is expected to show that unemployment rose again this month.
So we’ve spent nearly a trillion dollars on so-called “stimulus projects”, and for what? Basically nothing, at least nothing that has much chance of lasting. The economy was going to rebound anyway (it always does), and some would argue (I’d be one of them) that it would have rebounded quicker had the government stayed out of all of it. Yeah, there would have been some pain and misery involved, but when it was over and done with, our economy would have been stronger.
When government gets involved, it almost always weakens the economy long-term and burdens us all with massive debt in the process. And, you know, it’s not like big government spent the money wisely, and for every new program they want to try, there’s always == ALWAYS — a list of massive tax increases to go along with it.
